This is interesting to me, so I ask for her permission to access for both blog website login, and start the conversion.
First step, of course Google to see what's the options out there lah.
So, I found this: http://wordpress2blogger.appspot.com/
And in just few hours, both her website in Wordpress.com had migrated to the Blogspot.com
The tool itself is very useful, magic is done 70% by it.
If you interested to know more, here are some more technical tips:
1. After export the posts from Wordpress.com, try to open it with a browser before convert it using the http://wordpress2blogger.appspot.com/
-> the exported XML might need some touch up, the problem I faced are mainly due to the '&' sign was not properly converted into the '&' HTML code, this will failed the conversion.
-> then there are some problem with the missing close tag as well
2. Always try to put your photo for any blog post in a free hosting site, she has a lot of photos that were keep in the private domain, this would take big effort to migrate those images to Picasa Web let's say. She would need to map properly what's the old & new image URL, and edit the related posts accordingly. Not a difficult job, but it's really very tedious work if u have a lot of old posts with a lot of images.
3. The comments within the post are migrated with some 'issue'. For e.g. a person that has comments on the post, with it's details of the email, is not migrated properly. The comments shows in Blogspot.com only contains the name, without the email.
BTW, MSN Live Writter seems like can post the post to different blog site as well. Since it has restriction to run this MSN Live Writer (my friend is using Mac, rich lady huh :p), also I am not a big fan of MSN itself, so I didn't have any real experience can share with you. You may try to play around with it, as the option I describe above might need a little bit more technical background
I do have fun when exploring on this, it is good to see things happen, especially things that is not related to work :D
Of coz I left the details of migrating the photos back to my friend lah, it is > 200 photos to do so leh. Would be days of work man.
Guess she will get mad with the process of
- get files from the private domain,
- upload to free image hosting domain,
- find the blog, then update the image's URL :p
